What is Chiropractic Treatment?

Chiropractic treatment is a medical system based on the diagnosis and treatment of the joints through physical realignment, or what is referred to as a chiropractic adjustment. While treatments typically focus on the spine, nearly any joint, ligament or tendon can be treated by a chiropractor. In fact, chiropractors can treat anything from headaches and colds to damaged nerves and slipped vertebrae.  Learn more at our Orlando chiropractic office!

The Goal of Chiropractic Treatment

Treatment by a chiropractor aims to reduce and even eliminate pain while also restoring movement. In other words, a chiropractor aims to get you back in shape and restore you to your previous physical abilities before your symptoms appeared.

How Chiropractic Treatment Works

Chiropractic treatment works in a number of different ways, dependent on the type of pain or discomfort. However, since the goal is almost always realignment of a joint, relief comes in the form of the surrounding muscles being allowed to resume their normal functions. This is because when an injury occurs to a joint or vertebrae the surrounding muscles try to compensate for the sudden change, which is the real source of pain.

What Chiropractors Do

As with all medicine, a typical chiropractic treatment begins with a consultation and discussion between the patient and doctor. During this consultation the chiropractor will take medical history in account as well as the patients current physical and emotional state. Treatments can be delivered in a number ways, however they all focus on direct realignment of the joints. This is most commonly done quite literally with a hands on technique. Dr. Mark will take care of all of your Orlando chiropractor needs!

How Chiropractic Treatment Differs

Chiropractic treatment differs from other forms of pain relief in that there is no prescription of painkillers or anti-inflammatory drugs. At it’s purest, a treatment from a chiropractor is a form of physical therapy or rehabilitation. Furthermore, there is absolutely no invasion of the body through surgery, injection or implants. So, instead of getting cortisone shots for a troublesome knee, a chiropractor will work on the joint of a series of visits and prescribe a routine of exercises to help a patient restore the joint to normal.

The Benefits of Chiropractic Treatment

Manipulation of the spine and joints by a professionally trained and licensed chiropractor is considered to be a safe course of treatment for the relief of back, neck, shoulder and joint pain. This is particularly true for chronic and acute pain. All treatment is based on clear and scientific diagnosis and analysis. Because treatment is non-invasive and does not include the use of medications and drugs there are no side effects on the organs or other systems that require further recovery. In fact, research has shown that people who suffer from back, neck and shoulder injuries and purse treatment from a chiropractor recover sooner and with no complications, as opposed to those who choose treatment via surgery and pain killers. Chiropractors may also recommend changes in the diet, which can improve blood flow and reduce swelling, a common culprit in back, neck and joint discomfort.
